Just like genetical engineering, technological development should have ethical limitations, the impact on people lives might be too big, it may get out of our hands because we are dealing with modifying big complexities without having proper knowledge or seeing the full picture
1.1_Return_to_the_age_of_magic
Just like an experiment, if we would bring current technology, 100, 500 or 2000 years back, the people living back then would consider it magic, because they would lack the scientific perspective, that offers knowledge as a form of control over nature or contingency or the unknown. The same applies if we create technology that is beyond our comprehension, if we would lack the right perspective, it would look like magic. The return of religion.
1.2_Who_will_build_buses
A theory I had already for a long while. At a certain point things would get more complicated and humanity less skilled and less intelligent because of easiness of life, of automations. If we let go of our skills, reading, navigation, driving, building, who would design and build the automations ? We dont have to wait for technology to out-smart us, we already started out-stupifying it, meaning we lock ourselves outside the mechanisms of technology once technology becomes so complicated nobody knows whats happening anymore, nobody can fix an over complicated device.
1.3_Overlooking_conciousness
We dont really have to speak in terms of consciousness. AI has data, parameters, input, and the output can be in the form of text (which communicates with people, maybe devices) but soon will have more and more integration into our day to day tech. That means even without having to be something similar to human, or philosophically by conscious (what ever that means), it can act like a virus in terms of a very simple organism like mechanism which can spread and modify our enviroment. In fact we are already in that scenario for a while.
1.4_Genetic_engineering
I think the biological domain has superiority over man-build electronics, nature was engineering since forever… Its only our pre-conceptions that prevents us looking deeper into the abyss (and the abyss will stare back)
1.5_Nothing_will_change
In practicality:
We already lost the old perspective of the world (non-atomist, world as concepts and forces).
We never had control, over the big processes that humanity is involved with, agriculture, industrialisation, information.
We already have to power to play god with biology and we refuse, ethically. (too much power).
We can always choose to do good or bad, or have different concepts of good and bad.
Super-intelligence and no-intelligence are not good or bad per say, rationalism is another type of blindness (never forget the one eyed god).
1.6_Nothing_will_change
Bottom line : In case of apocalypse there will be still a lot (if not more) of reasons to keep celebrating life, until it ends, and if not, we can celebrate death.
